‘If you don’t know where you are going any road will get you there’ – Lewis Carroll.
The question is do you want to go to a destination blindly or do you want to have some guidance, a map, and a plan to go to a destination that you prefer?

I hope I have got your attention.
To be frank the topics above are relevant but the issue is now a day we are all running to find a quick-fix solution to solve a particular question.
The above headings will get more attention than ‘know yourself better’, and ‘Understand your purpose’ because somehow we have learned to go with the flow and are uncomfortable exploring the deeper topic which actually can unlock all the doors for us.
Are you Stressed and Overwhelmed?
After getting your hard-earned qualification you started your career with all the excitement in the world. You have worked hard and on many occasions, 10/12 hours work day to deliver fantastic output for your organization and you have progressed in your career as well. You have attended a number of training provided by your organization. Career has always been your prime focus area. Suddenly you have come to a point and ask yourself: Where do I go from here? , Is this the best I can do? What is next for me and my family? What do I really want? The feeling of overwhelm, confusion, and self-doubt takes over.
Self-Awareness is the Key
Self-Mastery is the key to unlocking the best version of yourself.
If you are self-aware and consciously apply your attention and time to things that matter in the long run then you will have fulfilled, joyous, and more successful life.
Now you may tell me that you are aware of this or you have heard other experts talking about it.
What have you done about it?
According to data published, viewers spent 81.55m hours watching the first 3 episodes of ‘Harry and Meghan’ within four days of release.
Just think about it, 81 million hours!!!
Maybe you watched something else.
I am not saying that spending time on something which gives you pleasure (or takes your mind out of the day-to-day grind) is bad. Are you doing it consciously or are you on autopilot?
When was the last time you genuinely set aside an hour to think about yourself and your own priorities? Too hard right? We keep on telling ourselves ‘Life will take care of itself’.
I personally spent a significant amount of time reflecting within, understanding my identity (it can evolve), tackle the tough questions (which we all tend to avoid), and once I have progressed in this area the feeling is magical and the outcome is fantastic.
Five key benefits of being Self-aware to unlock the best version of yourself
1. Improved Decision Making
When you have an accurate understanding of yourself, you can make better decisions because you know what strategies work best for you and which ones don’t. You won’t waste time on ideas or approaches that aren’t a good fit for your personality or values. As a result, decision-making becomes more efficient and effective, leading to better outcomes.
I have seen on many occasions as employees progress in the organizations they become very good at following directions and fulfilling tight deadlines but over time they lose their identity and struggle to express opinions or make decisions at key moments.
Understanding your own values, and drivers will not only help you to make better decisions but will also establish your core identity.
2. Increased Confidence
The more you understand yourself—your strengths, weaknesses, and motivations—the more confidence you gain in your ability to lead. A lack of self-awareness can lead to feelings of insecurity or doubt as you try to navigate unfamiliar situations or challenges as they arise. By developing self-awareness, however, you can build their confidence so you feel secure in your role as a leader no matter what comes in your way.
At the organizational level, there are processes such as 360 feedback, ongoing feedback from line managers, and other training. Unfortunately on many occasions, these are taken as formalities meaning you fill up a form, have a conversation, and make a plan on paper.
How many of you have genuinely tried to work on yourself? If the answer is ‘Yes’ then big Congratulations, if the answer is ‘To some extent’ or ‘No’ then it’s high time you start working on it.
3. Increased Resilience
Self-aware individuals are typically more resilient when it comes to stressful or challenging situations because they recognize how their emotions may be impacting their reactions and can use this knowledge to adapt accordingly in order to remain calm under pressure instead of letting negative thoughts control their actions or words in difficult moments. This increased resilience makes them even more effective as leaders because they know how best to handle delicate situations while still remaining strong enough to lead by example during times of turmoil or crisis within an organization or team environment. How resilient are you? When was the last time you successfully bounced back from a setback?
Could you have done something differently?
Again it all starts with self-awareness.
4. Improved Leadership Skills
Self-awareness enables you to recognize when you need help from others or when it’s best to delegate tasks to those who are better equipped for certain roles than yourself—allowing employees to shine in areas where they excel instead of trying to do everything by yourself (which often leads to burnout). Plus, it helps you to become more open-minded when making decisions so that you can consider all perspectives before coming to any conclusions. I am sure you have had the chance to work with leaders who are empowering, collaborative, and open-minded but you must have also come across leaders who are not clear in their brief, tends to keep things to themselves (maybe slightly insecure), and ultimately hinders team development. What do you think makes the difference? Again it all starts with a deep level of Self-awareness.
5. Improved Productivity
When you are more aware of their emotions and reactions, you are better able to focus on the tasks at hand rather than getting caught up in your own feelings or thoughts. This allows you to stay productive and focused on the goals you need to accomplish in all aspects of your life. It also helps you avoid procrastination and other distractions that can impact your productivity levels over time.
‘Knowing what to do and not doing it is the same as not knowing what to do’ – Robin Sharma. Now that you are aware of some of the core benefits of being-self aware the question is what are you going to do about it? Would you set aside time to work on it? You to make it your priority? Would you work with a coach who can partner with you in your journey? The power is all yours. Over the course of the next few months, I will do deeper into different aspects of self-awareness, mindset, wheel of life, and values and hopefully, I would be able to provide some tools to help your journey. Wish you joy, fulfillment, and good health.
Very well written. Thought provoking 👍
Amazing insights but articulated so clearly one can easily connect. The relationship between lack of self awareness and insecurity is one best and most visible example. Splendid indeed….
